ABOUT THE Workshop

This workshop provides professional trainers, shelter staff, dog walkers and pet guardians with the hands-on skills to become proficient in BAT and prepares professional trainers for the level of skill to become a Certified Behavior Adjustment Training Instructor (CBATI) through Grisha Stewart's Online Dog Training Academy.*

The BAT 3-Day Intensive course focuses on the practical skills of BAT 2.0 along with general practices for reducing reactivity. 

Participants will be paired up for the BAT field, then grouped into small teams, lead by the CBATIs. You will learn and experience the beauty of leash skills, the keen eye on body language, the abundance of naturally occurring reinforcers, and the connection between human and dog. 

Content and course structure are based on the book BAT 2.0 by Grisha Stewart with instruction taught independently by Certified BAT Instructors, sanctioned by Grisha Stewart. This course is not connected with Grisha Stewart's Dog Training Academy, Empowered Animals, LLC.

Daily lectures and hands-on learning activities will take place at the Building Bonds/Journey Agility 4,000 sqft training center. There will be daily field trips to a nearby private park for the BAT field work. You will use your own transportation and arrangements will be made for those without a car. 

Participants will be paired up for the BAT field work. You may arrive with a partner in mind, attend with a friend or be assigned a partner when you arrive.

There will be a maximum of three teams with six partners in each team. Each partner team will be assigned a BAT Student Dog and Client. There will be BAT Set-Ups and Ninja BAT for each team to work within.


There will be a 3-hour welcome and orientation session via Zoom on Sunday, February 13th from 9 am-12 pm PST. An invitation to the Zoom session will be included in the confirmation email for all participants.


Masks for all individuals vaccinated for Covid 19 are optional except in the case of traveling in vehicles with other participants. When traveling in a car with other participants, we ask everyone to wear a mask. All unvaccinated persons are asked to wear a mask when indoors. When offsite and outdoors at the park, masks are optional. 

If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness, please do not attend. The event refund policy applies to any illnesses registrants may experience impacting attendance.

Ellen Naumann, CBATI, CPDT-KA

Ellen Naumann is best known for her work with the certification of trainers in Behavior Adjustment Training. Having taught BAT Certification courses in the US and abroad, she is uniquely qualified to instruct in theoretical and practical skills of BAT. She is also a co-author of the Reframing Reactivity Toolbox, a comprehensive library of customizable resources for trainers working with reactivity. Ellen has coached and mentored trainers globally, worked and volunteered in shelters, and continues to help her private clients reduce and reframe reactivity.


Kim Silver is the owner and head trainer at Building Bonds in Tucson Arizona. As a Certified Behavior Adjustment Instructor, Kim uses BAT and its principles working with dogs in all stages of life from building confidence in puppies to helping dogs who have experienced fear, reactivity or aggression for years. Kim is also a Family Dog Mediator, helping families understand their whole dog using the L.E.G.S. model integrating each dog's learning history, environment, genetics, and unique self characteristics. 

Alicia "Ffluffy" Nicholas, CBATI, CPDT-KA, ANWI

Ffluffy is the owner of Journey Agility in Tucson, Arizona. Ffluffy has worked with and trained dogs of many different breeds and sizes, from Chihuahuas to Malinois, giving her a perspective about behavior that is unique in dog sports. Ffluffy helps people cultivate lasting relationships with their dogs, one that will span a lifetime and foster the discovery of new passions, activities, and sports together. She believes that goals are an important part of the journey, but how you attain them is what matters. As a CBATI, Ffluffy uses BAT to help dogs with fear, reactivity, and confidence issues.

  • Shelter employees (not volunteers) may attend at a discounted rate. You will be contacted via email to provide proof of employment within 10 days of registering for the workshop. Shelter employment documentation must be provided within 7 days of the written request.


Beverages and light snacks will be served and are included with your registration. Lunch will be on your own. 


In registering for BAT and Reactivity Intensive Workshop, you are assuming the inherent risk of potential injury to yourself, a dog, another animal or person while attending the course and while on the grounds of the surrounding area.

If any dog causes property damage, or bites or injures you, any dog, animal or person, you agree to indemnify Ellen the Dog Trainer, Inc. , Building Bonds, LLC , Journey Agility, LLC and its agents from any resulting claims, demands, lawsuits, losses, costs or expenses, including attorney fees. Ellen the Dog Trainer, Inc. Building Bonds, LLC , Journey Agility, LLC should not be held responsible for any resulting injuries, losses, damages, costs or expenses. This Agreement is binding upon Registrant, spouse of Registrant, and children of Registrant. This Agreement supersedes all prior discussions, representations, warranties and agreements of the parties, and expresses the entire agreement between Registrant, Ellen the Dog Trainer, Inc. Building Bonds, LLC , Journey Agility, LLC regarding the matters described above. The parties confirm that, except for that which is specifically written in this Agreement, no promises, representations or oral understandings have been made with regard to anything else.
I hereby grant permission to Ellen The Dog Trainer, Inc. Building Bonds, LLC , Journey Agility, LLC to use photographs and/or video of me taken at the BAT Certification Course in publications, news releases, online, and in other communications related to the mission of BAT for Dogs without financial compensation.
Full refunds are not available for this workshop.

A 50% Refund is available if you cancel 30 days prior to your workshop. No refunds will be available after that time. Exceptions will not be made for illnesses including Covid 19.
